Henderson Township is a township in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 972 at the 2000 census. The township includes the village of Ardenheim.

History

The Pennsylvania Canal Guard Lock and Feeder Dam, Raystown Branch was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 26.0 square miles (67 km2), of which, 25.9 square miles (67 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (0.50%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 972 people, 395 households, and 293 families residing in the township. The population density was 37.6 people per square mile (14.5/km²). There were 562 housing units at an average density of 21.7/sq mi (8.4/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.25% White, 0.82% African American, 0.51% Asian, and 0.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.21% of the population.

There were 395 households out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.85.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.1 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $32,750, and the median income for a family was $35,417. Males had a median income of $32,045 versus $22,679 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,326. About 5.8% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 9.2% of those age 65 or over.
